         The initial schoolhouse in Fields was built around the late 1800's by the Hyatt family who settled along Windham Creek in the 1860's. The structure was your standard school for the era, as it was a small wood-framed building with no more than five or six rooms. A simple school for a few of the local community's kids who had the luxury of getting an education, as opposed to the many who were simply forced to begin manual labor at an early age.
          Due to a sudden population growth caused by an oil boom in the local area, a new school was needed to accommodate the expansion and was constructed in 1939. This new brick-laid school was large enough to house all twelve grades and included a large gym with a stage, a small building in the rear for various Agriculture classes and a cafeteria. The old original school building, along with another wood framed structure were then used as extra class rooms.

           For years, the old Hyatt High School has been rumored to be haunted. There have been reports of a death or two occurring here, yet we were unable to verify this. Claims such as disembodied voices being heard when no one else was around, basketballs heard bouncing in the gym only to find nobody inside, locker doors slamming shut by themselves, doors locking on their own, lights cutting off and on and strange shadows being seen. Additionally, the freezer doors in the cafeteria have reportedly closed on their own, the heater in the girls' bathroom turned on at the breaker box, and unexplainable cold spots have been felt through out the building! Needless to say, everything but the discovery of Jimmy Hoffa has taken place here!
            We have been fortunate enough to conduct two separate investigations at Hyatt High School. On our first visit, activity seemed to centralize around the cafeteria and the gym. In the cafeteria, several unexplainable spikes on the EMF meters were accompanied by mysterious cold spots. In the gym, our investigators heard the audible sound of a woman's voice along with weird knocking sounds. Further investigating of the area could not locate the source of these noises.
             Our follow-up investigation proved to be less active from the standpoint of personal experiences, as no one reported anything strange happening during the night. Ghost hunting at its finest; as probably eighty percent of our investigations yield zero personal experiences, causing for many boring nights. Still, you cannot go off the lack of personal experiences as a sign of a dead investigation, no pun intended!              Infra-red cameras are a double-edged sword. Yes, they are primarily used due to the fact that they can see levels of light that our naked eyes are unable to see. The downside to this feature is that just because we cannot normally see it, doesn't mean it's paranormal. IR cameras greatly enhance every speck of dust, moisture and bug, often making you think you have captured something substantial. It is imperative that you always highly scrutinize anything captured on an IR camera. Always look at flight patterns to help you define your anomaly. A slow gliding ball that seems to flicker can be ruled out as dust. An oblong shape that seems to zig-zag and move around sporadically around, go ahead an label it a bug. We primarily look for light anomalies that seem to have a mind of their own, moving in patterns and speeds not similar to the two that I just mentioned.
             Such was the case with the light anomaly that we captured on our follow-up investigation. We observed a small flickering, orb-like object originate from ground level, rise up, then suddenly change direction and head straight towards the camera, becoming brighter and brighter. The object did not seem to follow the traditional characteristics of dust or a bug. Could this have been a collection of energy from what had interacted with us on our first visit? As Albert Einstein said, “Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.” In my opinion, this is one of the single most significant statements ever made that can best be associated with paranormal investigating. Whether a haunting is residual or intelligent, the earth serves as a giant tape recorder, storing data, or energy, to play and replay. The information can be replayed in a multitude of manners such as the types of evidence we look for; cold spots, electromagnetic spikes, electronic voice phenomena, etc.
