Ok guys, let's face it, what could be more appealing than a haunted women’s' college dormitory? Well, perhaps a haunted strip club, but don't you worry, we will get to that as well in due time! Do you actually think that haunted tales would only reside in grand plantation homes and other stereotypical locations? Think again, as this is Louisiana and everyone knows that here, looks can be deceiving!
Founded in 1898, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is the second largest university in Louisiana. Formerly known as USL, ULL is one of the greatest schools in the state in regards to academics, sports, and yes, beautiful women! I apologize if I offend anyone, but ULL has always been known for their hard-partying students and beautiful women! Not sure if it is something in the water or steroids in the chicken but I can assure you that I am not the only guy out there that can attest to this! Regardless, beyond the outspoken and lively personalities known as the UL Rajun Cajuns, there lie several dark and ominous stories that make for great catalysts to haunted legends.
We begin our journey with the dormitory formerly known as Baker-Huger Hall. Although, the original has been demolished and a completely new dorm has been erected in its place, Baker-Huger Hall had quite an interesting tale. Former students can confirm that there was one area of the building that had been bricked up, as to hide what was once there. Some claim it was a simple boiler room, while others know of a much more elaborate story. It is said that one of these dorm rooms was home to a female student who practiced black magic and witchcraft. Before I am burned at the stake (no pun intended), please let me be the first to acknowledge that not all forms of witchcraft is evil. Now that that is out of the way, allow me to continue. The reported student in question was either communicating with a Ouija board or performing some sort of ritual. Whatever the case may be, something possessed her and she is said to have committed suicide in her dorm room. Exactly one

As interesting as this story may be, this is not the predominate legend associated with the university. Our major source of activity is said to reside in the still standing Harris Hall. It is said that during the 1960's a young student by the name of “Lily” had a major accident with a malfunctioning elevator, which detached from its safety mechanisms and fell uncontrollably, decapitating the young woman. The shaft was said to have been sealed off from future use yet the remnants of this tragic event seems to be etched in time, as students who walk near this area claim to feel a strange presence near them and the feeling of someone tugging on their backpacks.
No one knows for sure the true reasons for the reported activity but those who call Harris Hall home definitely claim that they are not alone. For years, we have been honored to host our Continuing Education course here at ULL. During my many visits, I have spoken with staff and students alike, all of which have shared their hearsay rumors regarding Harris Hall. No investigation has been conducted yet of Harris Hall, but I can assure you that if a women's dorm does need to be checked out, I'll be the first one in line; night vision camera in hand! Just kidding guys, I'm not that perverted! I don't think so, at least!
